Smile Big For The Grinch in Fairhaven

Looking for a fun alternative to yearly Christmas photos with Santa?  Consider getting your photo taken with the Grinch in downtown Fairhaven.

Bring down the family, the kids, even the dog or cat with “The Grinch” and his beautiful sleigh. Each Friday-Sunday through Dec. 23, local photographer Tim Chandonnet will be snapping photos of Bellinghamsters getting cozy the Grinch. The photo sitting and a digital photo is $10, with proceeds benefiting Blue Skies for Children, a local nonprofit assisting low-income and foster children.

The Grinch will be waiting for you at the Fairhaven Art Market (20 local artists of The Whatcom Art Guild showcasing a wide array of original painting, photography, sculpture, jewelry, textiles and more works) at the lower level of the Waldron Building, 1314 12th St, otherwise known as McKenzie Alley.  It’s a little tricky to get to, but if you can find Rustic Coffee, head down the alley.

Have fun, and don’t let the Grinch get the best of you!

5 Cloudy Day Activities

Ah, June gloom. And now, July gloom. It’s just a fact of life in the Pacific Northwest, I guess.  And it is seriously gloomy today in Bellingham.  Trying to put a positive spin on it, I’ve come up with a little list of good cloudy or rainy day activities.

1. Curl up with a good book. If you’ve already got one, find your favorite chair and stay awhile!  If not, Village Books in Fairhaven is a great place to hang out and find a new one.  They’ve even got a nice café upstairs.  I recommend ‘Water for Elephants‘ by Sara Gruen.  Read it before the movie comes out so you can say “the book was better”.

Monday Caffeine: Rustic Coffee

It’s Monday morning again, and I need something to get me going! I stopped by Rustic Coffee in the Fairhaven neighborhood for a pick me up.

Rustic Coffee has got their “atmosphere” down. There’s copper detailing, a fireplace, bookshelf, cozy chairs, wireless internet, and the whole nine yards. I’m not sure I’d call it “rustic”, but I like the modern amenities! It’s a great place for curling up with a book, meeting up with a friend, a small business meeting, or just for getting coffee!
